Music Class

Violet is in a Kids Love Music class for toddlers.  She used to be in the baby class and I have to say, she didn't seem to get much out of it.  But she loves the toddler music class.  There are walking songs and dancing songs.  There are shakers to shake and instruments to play.  It's not too structured since toddlers have pretty much no attention span.  And the last ten minutes is free play on the instruments.

Notice no matter what instrument she's playing, she's got the red stick that's for the drums.  She's obsessed with them.  The teacher tried to get her to play the xylophone with the correct xylophone stick and she wasn't having it.  It's only the drumsticks for her. She really likes to suck on them.  There's no stopping her.  And if you take it away, you get a full blown melt down.  I've decided just to ignore it and let her suck on it.  It's probably good for her immune system.

Mommy learns a lesson (AKA Blueberry girl)

So today I learned a valuable lesson that probably all moms learn at some point.

There is such a thing as being too quiet.

Violet had wandered into the dining room, as she's apt to do.  We've got the downstairs pretty child proofed and there's a gate that blocks the stairs, so she can wander away from us and play.  She usually wanders back pretty quickly.

Today she wandered away to the dining room and didn't come back.  I could just see the edge of her through the doorway and saw she was playing with a tupperware by herself.  She kept herself entertained for quite a while and I silently congratulated myself for raising such an independent toddler.

And then I heard it.  Silence.  Too much silence.  What the hell was going on in there?  And where did she get that tupperware?

Well, the tupperware was from breakfast and it held her blueberries.  For the last ten minutes she had been crushing the blueberries into the white carpet.

And that's how I learned that there is such a thing as too quiet.

14 months!

Violet celebrated being 14 months old the other day with her first GI flu.  It was like the exorcist with projectile vomiting everywhere (and all over mommy) followed by hysterical crying to be held--while covered in vomit.  It took two days to get the smell out of the bathroom.

And how come no one talks about this milestone?
